Monday Morning Game Face On

. Monday, 2 November 2015 .

Perhaps I've been hit by the beauty bug too late in life. At 24, I have just recently joined this (previously) foreign world and boy have my every day life become just a bit more exciting! Up until recently, my go to look was super dark lipstick because 1. It was easy to apply 2. Minimal effort required and also it's virtually impossible to screw application up 3. I've been told I have great lips 4. I have super sensitive eyes so that rules out eye make-up. Wearing foundation or anything else was reserved for very special occasions and not even fashion week could make me wear them!

The great thing about this, though, is that now I am making up (ha. pun) for lost time and for all those years not being a beauty industry consumer. I am learning so much about products, tips and tricks, and subsequently feel like I'm getting to know myself more through this process too.

So here is my Monday face. These products are currently a staple in my beauty arsenal (is it too early to use that term for an amateur like me?!) and I think is a great base to start with when creating different looks and building a collection.

Mieux Derma Revive and Replenish - I use this on days that I wear make-up (old habits die hard) post cleansing/pre toning and it makes my skin feel smoother and plumper that by the time I get to putting my base on, my foundation just glides effortlessly thanks to this baby. #iwokeuplikethis #really

Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder - I sometimes wear this on top of foundation or if I'm feeling lazy, I wear it on its own. It's great either way and I love how it just melts into my skin easily. I've been using it for about two years now and I think this might be my longest relationship yet...

MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 in NC40 - The first liquid foundation I've ever used and can I just say how not scary they really are to use at all? I had my apprehensions about using a liquid foundation – too much product resulting in cake face, or wearing the wrong shade that I look like I have a mask on – but this one just changed my perceptions completely! It matches my skin tone perfectly and is easy to blend. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a pump and I always end up with too much product in the morning.

YSL Touche Eclat Complexion Highlighter in 4.5. Luminous Sand - Legend has it that 1 Touche Eclat is sold somewhere in the world every 10 seconds. This bad boy did not earn its cult following without a reason. This little gold pen is EVERYTHING. A good night's sleep (well, you look like you had a good one at least), instant face brightener, and might even be the secret to plumper lips. Best part is, is that it's so small and takes up very little space in my bag.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant - Elizabeth Arden is one of those brands that I would never look to visit because I always thought it was more for an older market. When I got given this as a present, I thought I may as well try and boy am I glad I did! This is a staple in my bedside table. I put it on at night before going to bed and again in the morning after my skincare routine and pre make-up. My lips are ridiculously soft because of this and lipstick application is so much smoother. It also helps that it smells absolutely divine! Holy grail level.

MAC Lip Liner in Whirl - This is another holy grail product. Lip liner has changed my life. I swear I can no longer just put lipstick on. I always need a matching liner with it now. This one, though, is a classic. It's a dirty rose/nude shade that you can use on it's own, or under different lipstick shades. I once tried it with Stone which is a blueish/brown/grey shade and it warmed it up a little bit. If I could own just one lip liner, I'd probably pick this for versatility.

MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy - Described as a deep beige shade, this lipstick is my go to shade for everyday wear. Words cannot accurately describe my love for Velvet Teddy. It's the perfect nude for my complexion and I am crazy about the matte finish. I actually alternate between this and the lipstick version of Whirl. Like I said earlier, I usually play up my lips because they're massive and these shades make them look awesome x 100.

So this is my 'make-up game strong' starter pack. I also realise that this is my first beauty related post. I've got so many products and discoveries I have yet to share (I seriously have gone mad with this catch-up game) and I am so excited! Have you got any recommendations for me?
