This Natio Smooth & Rich Lip Palette Is The Treat You and Your Wallet Will Love

. Tuesday, 27 February 2018 .

The new Natio palette found its way to me towards the end of January and actually my first gift of 2018. My first post-Christmas treat and one that I was really excited to try because even though I have a bit of a lipstick obsession collection, I've actually never owned a lip palette before.

I was looking for the perfect lipstick for this feeling. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but I wanted a lipstick that reflected where I was and how I was feeling at the start of the year - so fresh and vibrant and light. Come to think of it, it's not as insane as it sounds, actually... we choose clothes and make-up looks depending on our moods after all. I was after a lipstick that didn't feel heavy, a colour that erred on the natural colour of my lips as I wanted to look fresh as hell this summer, but also pigmented enough that I can feel a bit more put together at work. The trouble with summer is that I rarely put make-up on after my skincare routine (because let's be honest, who likes sweating off their make-up 5 minutes after applying it in this heat?), so I tend to rely on lipsticks a lot more.

This palette ticked both boxes - each of the four colours looked so natural on me yet pigmented enough that I looked like I had something on at work. The magic of this palette, though, is when you combine all colours. It makes the prettiest custom shade! My mum is really into pretty shades that looks natural and kept asking what I was wearing the first time I tried it. I've got the 'Berry' palette, by the way and Amelia's one is 'Primrose'.

When I opened the palette for the first time, I thought the small brushes would be a bit of a nightmare to use but because they're tiny, but actually I found them a lot easier to control. I was able to really trace the outline of my lips and mix the shades. Also I have fat fingers so you can see in that photo of the top shade that I kinda dipped my fingers a bit... that's the lighter shade I slightly build up and dab at the centre of my lip. The compact also comes with a mirror so you know I'm doing my lipstick en route to work while in an Uber.

The only thing I was unsure about was that when first applied, it does have a strong scent to it. Not unpleasant, but because I've got a sensitive nose, I can really smell it. Fades away after a little while though and like I said, it's not unpleasant. Just strong.

Will I be reaching for this palette frequently? I already am. I don't think I've taken it out of my bag in a month and that's saying something! Best part is that it retails for $16.50. The perfect treat yo'self day treat without breaking the bank.

But don't just take my word for it - I have a guest reviewer for this post! Thanks to the lovely Amelia for reviewing this with me, officially beauty blogging below...

Here's what Amelia had to say...

When Jess told me I had won her Natio lip palette giveaway, I was having a pretty awful morning. Having woken late, been rained on and forgotten my glasses (incurring headaches all day), it completely made my day when Jess approached my desk and explained I had been randomly (and miraculously) picked by a random number generator to win. So, we’re off to a good start.

At first glance, the compact palette is subtle and clean – the four lip colour options advertise themselves without the need for overly complex or eye-catching packaging, and fits perfectly in my little daily-carry purse.

There are two palettes in this range – berry and primrose. I’m in possession of the latter, a collection of the colours Soft Pink, Enchant, Graceful and Eden. I won’t lie, they’re not colours that I’d usually go for, but after wearing them for a few days, they’re fast becoming favourites.

I love that there are three brushes that come with the palette, making it easy if you like keeping your brushes/colours separate. However, these colours are perfect for mixing and matching. My favourite so far is a base coat of Eden (the darkest colour), with a highlight of Soft Pink (the lightest colour). They blend beautifully!

In terms of sticking power, I’m really impressed. I must admit – being used to the long-term coverage of brands like ColourPop, I had relatively low expectations considering the gloss/sparkle of Natio. As with any lipstick, it does fade over time, but fared well against a coffee, two glasses of water, and a bagel over the space of a few hours.

The only downside I’ve found so far is that the brushes are a bit small and fiddly. Maybe it’s just my un-coordinated fingers but they’ve fallen out of my hand a couple of times, luckily able to be found again a few seconds later. However, unless they get wider, packaging size would have to be sacrificed in order to have longer brushes.

Overall, the Natio Primrose lip palette is one I’m stoked to have in my collection, and at just under $13 AUD, a real steal if you’re watching your wallet.
